MMU has a long list of successful alumni. To name a few, MMU take pride of the success attained by Muhammad Usamah Zaid Yasin, Ko Chuan Zhen, Dr. Vimala Perumal and Dato Dr. Nazri Khan. They had their best times in MMU not so long ago. Let’s get to know them better and be like them.

• Usamah Zaid
  • 

    Ejen Ali, a popular animated series in Malaysia is a brainchild of Usamah Zaid Yasin. Graduated in the field of Film and Animation in 2006, Usamah Zaid has proven that local animation can be elevated to greater heights. Through his production house, Wau Animation, the series debuted in 2016 and it has been broadcasted in over 50 countries. Prior to starting Wau Animation, Usamah Zaid was a founding member of Les’Copaque Productions, which produces another famous animated series, Upin Ipin.  

    As the number of Ejen Ali’s fan is growing, the series won several awards namely Best Short Animated (28th Malaysian Film Festival), Best 3D Animation Programme (Asian Television Awards) and Best 3D Animation Programme or Series (Asian Academy Creative Awards). In addition, his Ejen Ali: The Movie was also very succesful when the movie collected RM30 million after six weeks in the cinema. The overwhelming response from the industry was proven when it was categorised as the top-selling local film in 2019. • Ko Chuan Zhen

    It’s been barely twelve years since Ko Chuan Zhen graduated from MMU. Yet, he already holds the fate of his career with his own two hands as the Executive Director of Plus Solar, which he co-founded. During this time, he did more than managing to thrive as a solar-based engineer despite the bleak renewable energy industry in Malaysia. He also managed to overcome the label of being “too young”, and in doing so, succeeded in securing backers, supporters, and staff necessary to co-establish Plus Solar, a solar company which believes in powering sustainable growth by offering world-class renewable energy solutions.

    While he is the lead man in a tech start-up, Ko surprisingly devotes a lot of his time on non-technology matters, such as internal and external communications, strategizing, HR, marketing, and operations. We at MMU certainly understand why this is the case; all MMU students, regardless of their actual programmes, are required to learn entrepreneurship. By learning entrepreneurship, students gain a better understanding of the enterprise as a whole, rather than being locked into their insulated niche. Also, Ko takes leadership very seriously, as he makes it a point to have “coffee sessions” with his staff, so that he understands them as individuals. He still has a long way to go, but we at MMU are definitely proud to count him as our alumni.

• Dato Dr. Nazri Khan

    Dato’ Dr. Nazri Khan (License no.: eCMSRL/B9561/2019) or more commonly known as DDNK is a household name as one of the stock commentators in local and foreign mainstream media with over 10 years’ experience in corporate finance industry and over 20 years’ experience in stock market. He is currently working as the Chief Executive Office for Inter-Pacific Asset Management Sdn. Bhd.. He is also the primary invited speaker for Vega Hermosa International Sdn. Bhd.
    With a degree in Economics from University of Manchester, Masters and then PhD in the field of Management from Multimedia University (MMU), he has been committing to his passion in the Investment field ever since. This turning point was during the 10-year experience working as a lecturer in MMU.
    Aiming to pursue professional career in the financial industry with proper certification and license, He acquired the relevant qualification from Securities Industry Development Corporation (SIDC), the authoritative body for those who tread the path towards licensed professional career. Not stopping there, Dato’ Dr. Nazri Khan then continued on by acquiring relevant professional certificates, Member of the Society of Technical Analysts (MSTA) from Society of Technical Analysts (STA) of United Kingdom and Certified Financial Technician (CFTe) from International Federation of Technical Analysts, Inc. (IFTA) of United States. Both are global organizations in the field of Technical Analysis.

  • Recongnising his experience as an invited trainer in SIDC for CPE Curriculum with the cooperation from Persatuan Remisier Bumiputra Malaysia (PRIBUMI), he landed a job in MIMB Investment Bank.

  • With a proven expertise that he showcased; he was appointed by Affin Hwang Investment Bank to be the Head of Retail Equity Research. His views and insights gained spotlight attention and was invited to present in local TV stations. Continuing that, even prestigious international media outlet such as Bloomberg, CNBC and TheEdge gave him the platform to share his thoughts and insights on various economic topics.

  • His involvement in the Malaysian stock market has very much change the public view towards investment. This has earned him the Top Opinion Leader award by Bursa Marketplace for three years in a row from 2015 to 2017. His effort and commitment has been further recognised which garnered him The One Awards 2018: Malaysia Outstanding National Entrepreneur Awards for the Financial Services Industry category which was awarded by Yang Berhormat Dato’ Seri Dr. Ahmad Zahid Bin Hamidi.

  • Not only in the local scene, but his involvement also reached global when he was invited to host seminars in countries such as Singapore, Indonesia, Thailand, Egypt and Sudan. Plus, he was invited as one of the main speakers in the globally recognised IFTA Conference, a conference that gathers experts in the Technical Analysis field and successful fund managers from all around the world. Not just one IFTA Conference, Dato’ Dr. Nazri Khan has presented as the main speaker in several IFTA Conferences that were held in various countries such as Japan, Italy and Malaysia.

  • Malaysian Association of Technical Analysts (MATA) has garnered significant credibility when the organisation became the host for the 31st IFTA Conference which was held in the very heart of Malaysia, Kuala Lumpur, back in 2018. Furthermore, the highest recognition was received by the organisation that Dato’ Dr. Nazri Khan founded when the conference was officiated by the Prime Minister then, Yang Amat Berhormat Tun Dr. Mahathir Mohamad.

  • The credibility of DDNK can also be proven when he was appointed as a licensed fund manager in Phillip Capital Management. Not long after, he was headhunted by the famous Malaysian billionaire that founded Berjaya Corporation Berhad, Tan Sri Vincent Tan as the CEO at Inter-Pacific Asset Management Sdn. Bhd. In 8 months, he has proven his expertise and mastery in the investment field is not simply theoretical when the unit trust that he runs, InterPac Dana Safi yielded around 45% return from January 2020 to November 2020. This stellar performance was acknowledged as the best performing unit trust by the Lipper Investment Management and Fund Supermart in its respective class.

  • At the same time, DDNK has been actively educating the public to increase the awareness on the importance of investment with the proper and correct method through legal, legitimate, and shariah-compliant channel. It is estimated that he has taught and educated more than 100,000 participants collectively.
    The seminars that Dato’ Dr. Nazri Khan has taught in used to feature representatives including CEO of Bursa Malaysia, top officers from Investment Banks, EPF and Pusat Zakat Selangor. All his achievements and the services that he has provided to the public has been recognised by Multimedia University when he was awarded with Adjunct Professor title.
• Dr. Vimala Perumal

    Being the first female director in the local Tamil movie scenes in Malaysia, Dr. Vimala Perumal obtained her Bachelor’s Degree in the field of Film and Animation in 2004 from Multimedia University (MMU) and she later continued her Master of Knowledge  Management at the Faculty of Creative Multimedia, MMU. She is currently serving as Senior Lecturer at the FCM after completing her doctorate study in one of the local universities. Carrying huge responsibilities as academicians and film director did not stop her to produce the best films as her efforts are recognised through winning many awards in the local and international arenas. Dr. Vimala Perumal has elevated the Malaysian film industry to a greater height when her film ‘Vedigundu Passange’ earned more than RM1 million collection within two weeks of screening throughout Malaysia in 2018. 

    Her successful pathway started when her debut short film was among the top 60 in the world, which was screened at the 30th Busan International Short Film Festival in Korea. Her debut feature film entitled “Vilaiyaatu Pasange” (Playful Folks) has its successful run at the international screens, GSC in 2011. Apart  from that, “Vilaiyaatu Pasange” has created a history being the first Malaysian Tamil Movie to be played on ASTRO Box Office. Due to tremendous support, she released her second feature film entitled, “Vetti Pasanga” (Useless Folks) two years later. Followed by her previous achievements, “Vetti Pasanga” has recorded more success compared to her directorial debut. Besides winning two Silver Awards at the international level, “Vetti Pasanga” broke the record and achieved the highest box office collection for Malaysian Tamil Movie under Wajib Tayang Scheme during its release 2014.  MMU is exceptionally proud of Dr.Vimala’s accomplishment in the filmmaking arena!
