Our international students have made us proud by securing second place in the International Students Sports Carnival (ISSC) 2019 held at Multimedia University (MMU), Cyberjaya. The team clinched 1 gold, 1 silver and 3 bronze medals in Road Relay, Volleyball, Carrom, Tug of War and Netball respectively. Held from 26 until 27 November 2019, this event was organised by the Department of Higher Education in collaboration with MMU.

More than 400 athletes from eleven varsities in Malaysia namely Sunway University, Asia Pacific University (APU), Universiti Teknologi Petronas (UTP), University Kuala Lumpur (UniKL), Universiti Tenaga Nasional (UNITEN), Universiti Malaysia Pahang (UMP), Universiti Zainal Abidin (UniSZA), Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM), Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM), and Nilai University competed in six  categories.

Prof Datuk Dr. Ts Ahmad Rafi Mohamed Eshaq, MMU President, welcomed the contingents in his speech during the opening ceremony.  The event was officiated by Dato’ Barkhiya Shahiruddin, Chief Assistant Director, Department of Higher Education.

This annual event aims to inculcate healthy and productive integration amongst international students from public and international varsities. Afsaneh Houman, our student from the Faculty of Computing and Informatics (FCI) who coordinated the MMU team, expressed her happiness as they put a lot of effort into winning the medals.

As a result, USM team was crowned as champion with two gold and one bronze medals for the carnival. The prize-giving ceremony was graced by Mdm Erina Ismail, Chief Assistant Director, Department of Higher Education; Mr. Zambri Pawanchik, Vice President (Marketing and Communication) and Dr. Abdullah Sallehhuddin Abdullah Salim, Director of Student Affairs Division (STAD).
