Dr. Ridzwan Bakar, a lecturer from the Faculty of Management (FOM), was honoured to receive an invitation as Visiting Scholar at Universiti Islam Sultan Sharif Ali Brunei Darussalam recently.

He presented a public lecture on “Unleashing Islamic Finance and Waqf Potential for Growth”, which was attended by Brunei Darussalam government officers, lawyers, practitioners, professors, lecturers and students. It was an eye-opener to the attendees on the important role of waqf and Islamic finance.

Dr. Ridzwan also had been invited to attend UNISSA’s convocation and Convocation dinner attended by His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah, the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam as well as the Crown Prince Haji Al-Muhtadee Billah.

During the visit, he took the opportunity to present a few proposals on MMU collaboration with Universiti Islam Sultan Sharif Ali Brunei Darussalam’s Rector, Head of Department and  Senior lecturers. A special collaboration meeting was also held with Tabung Amanah Islam Brunei at Rizqun International Hotel.

In addition, Dr. Ridzwan also was invited to be a panelist in ‘Fikrah’, a TV show aired on RTM1 on 4 September 2019.  He was paired with Yang Berhormat Hjh Fuziah Salleh, Deputy Minister, Prime Minister Office to discuss on the topic entitled “The Potential of Wakaf Malaysia”. The one-hour discussion focused on Malaysia new aspirations on waqf development, waqf history, waqf success story, waqf new policy and waqf in practice.
