The Faculty of Business (FOB) and the Business Society organised its inaugural Social Entrepreneurship (SE) Masterclass with the collaboration of Malaysia Global Innovation & Creativity Centre (MaGIC) at MMU Melaka campus recently. It is a programme under Malaysia’s Social Inclusion & Vibrant Entrepreneurship (MasSIVE), an initiative by MaGIC. The programme attracted 50 participants including lecturers, students, NGOs, entrepreneurs and researchers from Johor, Melaka and Klang Valley.

The SE Masterclass held in conjunction with International Young Social Entrepreneurs Competition (IYSEC), which will be organised in September 2019. The event was graced by Ms. Yasmin Rasyid, Programme Director of Malaysian Social Inclusion and Vibrant Entrepreneurship (MasSIVE) of MaGIC. The one day SE Masterclass provided the participants with an intensive engagement into the fundamental of social entrepreneurship to help develop or validate social impact ideas.

Also present were two prominent and aspiring social entrepreneurs from Malaysia, Mr. Redza Shahid, from Grub Cycle and Ms. Lee Swee Lin, from PichaEats. These social entrepreneurs were involved in enlightening SE Wisdom Sharing sessions with the participants. Overall, the SE Masterclass exposed participants from various institutions to significant knowledge and skills pertinent to social entrepreneurship. Two more SE Masterclasses will take place on 17 August 2019 and 25 September 2019.

In addition, another FOB team from had successfully hosted a digital business workshop entitled “Asas Perniagaaan Digital” recently in Melaka. The workshop was held in collaboration with Majlis Bandaraya Melaka Bersejarah (MBMB). Participated by 30 members of the public, the workshop was led by Dr. Siti Zakiah Melatu Samsi and other trainers namely Dr. Hasmida Jamaluddin, Ms. Saleha Abdullah and Ms. Siti Nurul Huda Mohd.

The one-day workshop covered the conceptual knowledge on digital business and practical information including website design via Wix and digital marketing using web analytics. The participants were enthralled with the workshop’s direction and they expressed hope for more upcoming workshops in the future. This workshop was part of the MBMB Digital Initiative in which Dr. Mohd Rizal Abdul Razak, the Campus Director of Melaka and Dr. Liew Tze Wei are the external academic committees of the long-term MBMB-MMU workshop series.
