ABSTRACT
Nothing that passes through a black hole’s event horizon can ever escape its gravity; it is a one way ticket out of our Universe. Once the stuff of science fiction, scientists are now confident that black holes exist.
Dr. Kevin Koay will explain about these fascinating objects, and how black hole research has impacted our society in ways we would never have imagined, not least in the development of Wi-Fi and GPS systems. He will also talk about the recently announced first black hole image, and share his journey from being an MMU graduate to working on this large international project.
