Faculty of Engineering and Technology (FET) recently welcomed the return of Mr. Tan She Yong for its 4th FET Alumni Talk Series. The Robotics and Automation alumnus from the class of 2010 was invited to share his inspiring journey as an entrepreneur with his talk entitled “Engineered Entrepreneurship” with the presence of 73 students, alumni and staff. The talk was organised by FET’s Alumni Committee members, Mr. Low Kean Ong, Mr. Lim Chee Siong, Ms. Lim Sin Ting and Mr. Mohamed Syafiq Nor Hisham as an initiative to promote strong engagement between alumni, students and faculty.

Mr. Tan has been practising engineering skills in both his engineering career and entrepreneurship journey. He spent 3 years in South Korea as an engineer before returning to Malaysia to create more value in the Internet of Things (IoT), Fintech and sports sector. During the session, Mr. Tan shared his working experience as an engineer and how he changed his path becoming an entrepreneur. He went into entrepreneurship which led to a huge experimental error at the early stage of the venture. Yet, a bold decision to pivot the business created BiiB, a peer-to-peer running motivator platform which hosts in-app events for the public and private sectors to make running more than a sport to promote unity, teamwork and to give back to the society. Mr. Tan also gave valuable tips on ways to obtain funding for startup projects during Q&A session.
