Three lecturers, namely Dr. Ong Lee Yeng, Dr Leow Meng Chew and Dr Goh Pey Yun from the Faculty of Information Science and Technology (FIST) and two prospective master’s students (Mr. Tong Cheng Xiang, Mr. Chan Ming Wai) in Artificial Intelligence (AI) visited BIMAGE Consulting in Selangor for a strategic field trip in March 2025.

More than just a typical academic visit, this trip served as a meaningful knowledge exchange initiative aimed at bridging the gap between education, research, and real-world applications of AI in the Building Information Modeling (BIM) industry. It provided students with valuable exposure to industry practices and reinforced the university’s commitment to producing industry-ready graduates equipped with high-demand skillsets in the growing field of BIM-AI integration.

BIMAGE Consulting is a recognised leader in BIM innovation, working closely with government agencies, academic institutions, associations, and industry stakeholders to drive research and development, proof-of-concept initiatives, and BIM adoption. Their efforts include the creation of customised BIM modules and training for both local and international markets. During the visit, CEO Mr. Donahue Chong offered an in-depth overview of the BIM-MMU collaborative project, sharing insights into its progress, accomplishments, and limitations. He also emphasised the importance of effective communication with civil engineers to extract deeper insights and strengthen project outcomes.

The visit concluded in fruitful discussions about potential research collaborations and student engagement in future BIM-related projects. Participants gained a clearer understanding of how AI technologies are transforming the construction and infrastructure sectors.
