On 28 November 2024, MMU Press hosted a special networking session to celebrate Global Family Business Day 2024 at the Cyberjaya campus. Themed “Family Business Sustainability & Entrepreneurship Dialogue Series: Born into a Family Business—A Blessing or a Curse?”, the event was organised in collaboration with BG International Sdn. Bhd. and brought together family business leaders and entrepreneurs to explore sustainability, legacy, and entrepreneurship.
The session featured three speakers who captivated the audience with their unique journeys and insights. Puan Siti Khawa Janah Nasuha, Chief Executive Officer of Rempah Ratus Mak Siti, shared her inspiring journey of building her company while preserving her family’s legacy. She highlighted the importance of earning respect and overcoming challenges in a family business.
Puan Liyana Marzuki, a media activist and the accidental author of Jangan Pajak Otak, spoke about her transformative life experiences across diverse environments and how these shaped her personal and professional development. Meanwhile, Assoc. Prof. Ir. Dr. Lee Lini, Project Leader of MMU Press’s Legacy Entrepreneurship Book Project, offered an overview of the initiative. She encouraged entrepreneurs to document their journeys through this unique book series, emphasising the significance of preserving their legacies for future generations.
During the event, two entrepreneurs were celebrated for participation in the Legacy Entrepreneurship Book Project. En. Hisyamuddin Kamarudin, Chief Executive Officer of Raudatul Iman Education, and Ms. Parimala Kanapura, Managing Director of SP Juara Sdn. Bhd. Also in attendance was Prof. Dr. Tan Siow Hooi, Director of MMU Press, who presented tokens of appreciation to the guest speakers, further underscoring the significance of the occasion.
Attracting approximately 40 participants, the session provided a platform for family business entrepreneurs to gain valuable insights into entrepreneurship and explore opportunities to contribute to the Legacy Entrepreneurship Book Project. This meaningful gathering underscored the importance of documenting entrepreneurial stories to inspire and guide the next generation.
