Jeffrey Quek Shue Yew, a Master of Business Administration (MBA) student from Melaka, attended the Youth Economic Forum 2024 (YEF) held at the Malaysia International Trade and Exhibition Centre (MITEC) on 2 November 2024. This year’s forum, themed “A Second Economic Takeoff: Malaysia’s Path to the New Economy,” focused on the transformative role of youth in shaping the country’s economic future. The event provided a platform for young professionals and industry pioneers to connect, showcasing the aspirations of Malaysia’s youth to seize opportunities in the rapidly evolving new economy and digital sectors.

Jeffrey’s involvement in the forum reflects his strong commitment to sustainable economic strategies and innovative growth models. As a full-time MBA student, he brings a solid understanding of business dynamics and economic frameworks, drawing from both his academic background and professional experience. The forum kicked off with a panel discussion on “Transitioning Towards a Green Economy,” where speakers highlighted Malaysia’s efforts to promote eco-friendly policies. This was followed by discussions on integrating informal sectors into the formal economy, emphasising inclusivity and support for underserved industries.

The forum featured notable sessions, including a keynote address by YB Gobind Singh Deo, Minister of Digital on the significance of data in driving the digital economy and an international perspective from Timo Goosmann on Europe’s AI landscape. The day concluded with a closing keynote by YB Senator Tengku Datuk Seri Utama Zafrul Aziz, Minister of Investment, Trade and Industry who presented a blueprint for Malaysia’s economic resurgence amidst global shifts. Jeffrey’s participation in such a significant forum is anticipated to enrich his understanding and knowledge, equipping him with valuable insights that will contribute to his academic and professional development in the realm of sustainable economic strategies.
