Let us extend our heartfelt congratulations to Mr. Vincent Chan, our academic staff from the Faculty of Business for his outstanding guidance and mentorship, which led two of his mentee teams to victory at the Young Entrepreneurship Challenge (YEC) 2024, held at KOMTAR, Penang on 26 October 2024. Under his mentorship, his mentees achieved First Runner-Up positions in two categories: the Open Category and the High School Category. Both teams were awarded trophies, with the Open Category team winning a cash prize of RM5,000 and the High School Category team taking home RM2,000.

Organised by the Penang Youth Development Corporation (PYDC), YEC 2024 celebrated young innovators pushing boundaries with their groundbreaking ideas. In the Open Category, a duo consisting of Khor Pei Wen and Khor Yoong En from Central College Penang presented an immersive, user-centered one-stop platform for safe and efficient e-waste disposal, addressing a crucial need for environmental sustainability. Meanwhile, in the High School Category, students from Han Chiang High School, introduced a smart water bottle designed to foster healthy hydration habits and promote sustainability.

The event saw five finalists in each category, providing these young entrepreneurs with a platform to showcase their vision, innovation, and business acumen. YEC serves as a launchpad for aspiring youth to present, refine, and potentially bring their business concepts to life, embodying an entrepreneurial spirit that drives community and economic growth.

The closing and awards ceremony was graced by distinguished guests, including Chief Minister Yang Amat Berhormat Chow Kon Yeow, former Chief Minister Yang Amat Berhormat Lim Guan Eng, YB Tuan Haji Rashidi bin Zinol (EXCO for Trade, Entrepreneur Development, and Rural Affairs), and YB Tuan Daniel Gooi Zi Sen (EXCO for Youth, Sports, and Health).
