We are thrilled to announce the outstanding achievement of Team N3WBEEZ from the Faculty of Information Science & Technology (FIST), who secured 10th place in the national category of the Capture the Flag (CTF) competition at the APU International Battle of Hackers: Return of the Legends, recently.

Guided by their mentor, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ooi Shih Yin, the team members—Muhammad Ariff Ridzlan Bin Mohd Faudzi (Team Leader), Nawfal Syafi’ bin Zailan, and Muhammad Iffat bin Hanafiah—showcased exceptional skills in this prestigious cybersecurity competition. Their participation was made possible with full sponsorship and support from FIST.

The APU International Battle of Hackers is a premier event in cybersecurity, uniting participants from around the globe at Asia Pacific University (APU) to tackle real-world cybersecurity challenges. The event aimed to assess technical competencies and foster critical thinking, teamwork, and problem-solving abilities. Two primary competitions highlighted this event: a jeopardy-style CTF challenge and an intensive Forensic Game. Organised by APU’s Forensic & Security Research Center Student Section (FSEC-SS), the competition was sponsored by industry leaders, including PayNet, Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC), Ant International, Nexagate, MoneyLion, ASK Pentest, and N0H4TS, with support from Cyber Cohesion.

The CTF competition tested participants in diverse cybersecurity domains, including web exploitation, reverse engineering, binary exploitation (pwn), cryptography, forensics, and open-source intelligence (OSINT). The national category drew 160 teams and 465 participants from universities across Malaysia, reflecting the competitive and high-caliber nature of the event. The Forensic Game, which attracted 78 teams and 231 participants, challenged students to analyze digital evidence, recover data, and trace cybercrimes.

Congratulations to Team N3WBEEZ for their remarkable achievement and dedication to excellence in cybersecurity.
