The first-ever International Symposium on Information Technology and Web Engineering (SITWE2024) took place virtually from 23 -24 October 2024. Organised by the Journal of Informatics and Web Engineering (JIWE) in collaboration with MMU Press and the Center for Digital Innovations (previously known as the Center for Web Engineering), SITWE2024 gathered global experts and researchers under the theme “Towards Diversity and Sustainability,” paving the way for impactful exchanges on the future of ICT.
The event opened with an inspiring address by Dr. Sharlene Thiagarajah, CEO of TM R&D, and was officially launched with a speech by Prof. Dato’ Dr. Mazliham Mohd Su’ud, President of MMU. Also in attendance was Prof. Dr. Tan Siow Hooi, Director of MMU Press. Featuring six parallel sessions, the symposium explored cutting-edge topics including artificial intelligence, blockchain, cybersecurity, machine learning, and web engineering, cultivating a dynamic environment for knowledge sharing and international collaboration.
Participants engaged in thought-provoking keynotes and invited speeches from renowned experts, inspiring attendees with new perspectives on the evolving landscape of ICT. Outstanding contributions were recognised with the Best Paper and Best Presenter awards, showcasing exceptional research that aligns with the symposium’s mission of promoting innovation and sustainability.
The success of SITWE2024 was further bolstered by key partnerships with Indrasil University, India; The Dhanalakshmi College of Engineering, India; Study World College of Engineering, India; HELP University, Malaysia; Universitas Kristen Duta Wacana, Indonesia; and the IEEE Computational Intelligence Society Gujarat Chapter, India. Their support enriched the symposium’s impact, amplifying its reach and fostering a truly international atmosphere of academic excellence.
Accepted papers from the symposium will be published in JIWE, establishing a reputable academic platform for authors. Selected research articles will also be featured in the upcoming book series Highlights in Web Engineering (HIWE), providing increased visibility for innovative research within the field. These publication opportunities reflect SITWE2024’s dedication to advancing knowledge and setting high standards in ICT research.
Building on the success of SITWE2024, the organizers are already preparing for SITWE2025 with a commitment to further innovation, expanded partnerships, and more transformative research that will shape the future of ICT.
