On 4 October 2024, a dedicated team of lecturers from the Faculty of Management (FOM), led by Ts. Dr. Anusuyah Subbarao, conducted an impactful knowledge transfer programme (KTP) titled “The Digital Impact: Artificial Intelligence’s Influence on Society.” The initiative, supported by Dr. Nasreen Khan, Dr. Aaron Aw, and Mr. Muhammad Afif Fathullah, reached 40 Form 3 and Form 4 students, alongside their teachers, at Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan (SMK) Methodist Nibong Tebal, delivered over two interactive sessions.

The primary goal was to provide insights into the transformative influence of AI technology in various aspects of daily life while also highlighting its broader societal implications. Through this initiative, the FOM team aimed to empower students to become informed and responsible digital citizens capable of thinking critically about the role of technology in the world around them.

A key challenge for the school has been limited resources to support digital skills development, which is increasingly vital for students’ future success. This issue is particularly pressing because 90% of the students come from low-income families, with most falling into the B40 category. Recognizing this need, the trainers shared practical AI tools and provided hands-on learning opportunities. Participating students showcased their newfound AI skills through engaging presentations, demonstrating the knowledge they had gained.

The programme concluded with a promotional session introducing MMU to the students, followed by a token-giving ceremony. Both the students and teachers expressed great enthusiasm, with many offering positive feedback and requesting that the programme be held annually.

Well done!
