In an effort to bolster STEM education in Malaysia, the Center of Intelligent Cloud Computing (CICC) of the Faculty of Information Science & Technology (FIST) recently hosted a series of hands-on workshops, “Kids Code: Scratch and IoT,” as part of the Knowledge Transfer Programme (KTP) 2024.
Taking place on August 23, August 30, September 6, and September 13, these workshops aimed to spark students’ interest in the fascinating worlds of information technology, engineering, and science. Twenty-eight Standard 4 students from Integrated Islamic earning School Melaka participated in the workshops, where they developed their Scratch projects that incorporated games to enhance their critical thinking and problem-solving skills. Additionally, the IoT segment introduced students to programming with MicroBit, allowing them to create innovative projects like aBoom Barrier Gate and a Mobile Car Sensor.
The initiative was led by a dedicated team of 6 lecturers and 3 interns from CICC. Both students and teachers at Integrated Islamic School Melaka have expressed highly positive feedback, emphasizing how the workshops successfully made STEM subjects more engaging and accessible.
Kudos to CICC at FIST for inspiring the next generation of innovators!
