On 5 August 2024, Dr. Teh Chin Hui, Ir. Dr. Siva Priya Thiagarajah, Ir. Dr. Siow Chun Lim, Ir. Assoc Prof. Dr. Gobbi Ramasamy, and Dr. Ngu Eng Eng from the Faculty of Engineering (FOE) conducted a Knowledge Transfer Program (KTP) for approximately 70 Form Four students at Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan (SMK) Bandar Puncak Jalil. The workshop, titled “Photovoltaic Technology and Applications,” was designed to raise awareness about renewable energy and the practical applications of solar photovoltaic technology.
Dr. Siow kicked off the workshop by introducing the fundamentals of solar power and renewable energy. Following this, Dr. Teh, Dr. Gobbi, and Dr. Ngu led a hands-on practical session where students learned to identify solar photovoltaic cells and count the number of cells in a solar panel. Under the guidance of Dr. Teh and his team, students had the opportunity to experiment with solar photovoltaic systems outdoors, gaining practical experience in real-world conditions.
The students were enthusiastic, engaged, and highly responsive throughout the session. To further the learning experience, a competition will be organised in September 2024, challenging students to prepare videos showcasing innovative applications of solar photovoltaic technology. We look forward to the creative ideas that will emerge from this exciting initiative.
