A group of 30 volunteers from MMU recently participated in the Humanitarian Basic Skills Development Training at Zarania Caravan Park in Perak. This training, organised by Yayasan Universiti Multimedia (YUM), was conducted by Red A Humanitarian Development Global and Angkatan Pertahanan Awam Malaysia (APM). Its goal was to equip volunteers with essential skills for effective disaster emergency response.

The training provided MMU staff and YUM Scholars with crucial certifications in Basic Life Saving, Humanitarian Operations, and Swift Water Training. Participants delved into humanitarian relief operations, explored the challenges involved, and learned how to manage critical phases of delivering aid.

Throughout the programme, participants engaged in various modules covering the humanitarian cycle, preparedness, assessment and planning, and last-mile distribution. The training featured practical exercises such as Swift Water Training and Basic Life Saving, offering hands-on experience in handling emergencies.

The event ended with a table-top and procurement exercise, where participants applied their newly acquired skills to simulate real-world scenarios. This final exercise enhanced their decision-making and strategic planning abilities, preparing them to effectively respond to disaster situations.
