On 14 October 2023, Multimedia University (MMU) hosted the 2023 Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) Day celebrations at the Cyberjaya campus. The event was co-organised by the IEEE MMU Student Branch together with the IEEE Malaysia Section, IEEE Malaysia Communications Society and Vehicular Technology Society Joint Chapter, and IEEE Young Professionals Malaysia. The event was attended by around 60 participants from the academic community as well as industry representatives. 

Prof. Ir. Dr. Hairul Azhar Abdul Rashid, Vice President of Market Exploration, Engagement and Touchpoint (VP MEET) officiated the event as the representative from MMU. The half-day event featured a Membership Senior Member Elevation Workshop by Ir. Bernard Lim, a Sharing Session by a Recipient of IEEE Electronics Packaging Society’s William Chen Distinguished Service Award 2023 – Dr Shaw Fong Wong from Intel and Young Professionals Malaysia Forum. There were also technical talks on Integrating Sustainable Energy and Smart Agriculture by three distinguished speakers; Assoc. Prof. Ir. Ts. Dr. Dalila Mat Said, Assoc. Prof. Ts. Dr. Jasrul Jamani Jamian and Assoc. Prof. Ir. Ts. Dr. Syuhaida Ismail. 

IEEE Day commemorates the historic gathering of engineers in 1884 when they shared their technical ideas for the first time in history. This year’s IEEE Day’s theme is Leveraging Technology for a Better Tomorrow which highlights how the world benefits from what’s new and IEEE focuses on what’s next. Every year, IEEE Day is celebrated on the first Tuesday of October. This year, IEEE Day was celebrated on Tuesday 3 October 2023 and worldwide celebrations are being held throughout the first two weeks of October.
