The Faculty of Engineering and Technology (FET) hosted 19 students and a lecturer, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Patcharin Saechan from King Mongkut University of Technology, North Bangkok (KMUTNB) for a two-week student exchange program from November 23 to December 6, 2022. During the program, members of Engineering Society Melaka and Robotic Club Melaka also participated as representatives of MMU and engaged in various activities with the exchange students.

Through a collaborative effort between MMU and KMUTNB, the mobility programme serves as an avenue for students to create a larger network, learn different types of technology, embrace cultural differences, and broaden their horizons in gaining different cultural experiences. Among the main highlights of the programme was a workshop to build and programme a 4-degree-of-freedom (DOF) robotic arm, where the participants need to design a suitable robot gripper through 3D modelling software and perform fabrication through 3D printing. They also learned to use the Arduino programme to drive the arm. The workshop concluded with a robotic handling challenge to test the robotic arm built by the participants.

The KMUTNB delegation also had the opportunity to participate in the Melaka Heritage Tour as well as visited famous and historical places including A’Famosa, St. Paul’s Hill, Red Square, and others. They also spent two days in the Klang Valley area where they visited Petronas Twin Towers, Pavilion Kuala Lumpur, Telekom  Museum, and others. It is hoped that this exchange programme will spur more cooperation and connection between MMU and KMUTNB in the future.
