The Faculty of Engineering and Technology (FET) Alumni Committee invited Mr. Jonathan Fun to deliver an alumni talk entitled “Human Organization Performance – A science-based approach to understand mistakes” on 8 December 2022. Mr. Jonathan is currently working as a Deputy General Manager in Cargill Tropical Farm, Kalimantan Region. He graduated with a Bachelor of Engineering Electronics majoring in Robotics and Automation in 2008. Later he obtained his Masters degree from University of Strathclyde Glasgow in Business Administration in 2019.  He has also earned a Lean Six Sigma Green Belt certification in the following year.

About 40 students from the Advance Robotics and Quality Engineering class and academic staff from FET participated in the online talk session. The speaker enlightened on the 7 principles of human performance in detail which included how often people make mistakes, common causes and impact of human error at work and recognizing human error. He explained that most error-like situations are predictable and preventable through an understanding of the reason’s mistakes occurred and lessons learned. 

The session concluded with a quote from President Barack Obama “Learning to stand in somebody else’s shoes, to see through their eyes, that’s how peace begins. And it’s up to you to make that happen. Empathy is a quality of character that can change the world”. It is hoped that the attendees gained new perspectives and knowledge from this insightful talk
