On 11th November 2022, Multimedia University (MMU) and the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales (ICAEW) bolstered their cooperation and collaboration at the launch of the Strategic Credits (SC) Academic Community at the Cyberjaya campus. ICAEW was represented by its President, Ms. Julia Penny, and accompanied by Ms. Loh Wei Yuen, Head of ICAEW Malaysia, and the delegation. Prof. Dato’ Dr. Mazliham Mohd Su’ud, President of MMU extended his warm welcome to the guests and gave his welcoming remarks.

The ICAEW SC Academic Community consists of lecturers from MMU, University Malaya (UM), and Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM). It provides a platform for the ICAEW Strategic Credits partners to share their experience, expert knowledge, and best practices. It is worth noting that MMU is the first ICAEW Strategic Credits partner university in Malaysia, which enabled MMU accounting graduates to be eligible for up to the maximum of 12 exemptions, out of the 15 exams of the ACA qualification. In other words, MMU accounting graduates just need to pass another 3 more ACA exams to become a professional and globally recognized ICAEW chartered accountant.

During the event, the ICAEW also awarded two fully sponsored packages (one each from the Faculty of Management and the Faculty of Business) for MMU accounting lecturers to attend the ICAEW Tutor Conference 2023, which will be held in the UK next year. The recognition and appreciation certificates were also presented to the Strategic Credit Taskforce Members, and ICAEW Student Leaders of MMU.

In his speech, Prof. Mazliham mentioned that the long-standing relationship between both parties should be maintained and the university appreciates the continuous support given by the ICAEW. Also attending the event were Prof. Dr. Wong Hin Yong, Vice President of Academic and Innovative Learning (AIR); Dr. Mohd Fairuz Abd Rahim, Dean of FOM; Dr. Lye Chun Teck, Dean of the FOB, faculty members and other officers.
