A total of 42 students from the Faculty of Engineering and Technology (FET) attended an online session titled ‘Alumni Talk Session with Tapeout Engineer’ on 2nd September 2022. Hosted by the FET Alumni committee, the session was delivered by Mr. Wilson Tan, a senior tapeout engineer in GlobalFoundries.
Mr. Tan graduated with a Bachelor of Engineering Electronics majoring in Robotics and Automation in 2019 and a Diploma in Electronic Engineering in 2015. He was a Research Assistant under the Center of Communication System and ICs Design at MMU and he contributed to six publications in the area of semiconductor, ICs Design, and related fields.
The speaker explained the overview of what and how to become a Tapeout engineer, and he also shared his life journey as an engineering student transforming into a working adult in the industrial world. He also emphasised on engineering graduates should be well-equipped with both technical and soft skills to meet the industrial expectations for new graduates when joining the workforce. It is hoped that the students gained a clearer view of the job prospects and experience from an industry speaker.
