MMU hosted the International Symposium on Cyberbullying: Issues and Challenges on 21st September 2022. Prof. Dato’ Dr. Mazliham Mohd Su’ud, MMU President graced this virtual occasion and officiated the event. In his speech, Prof. Dato’ Dr. Mazliham welcomed the honourable speakers from different academic institutions as well as industry professionals for the symposium. He also stated that MMU is honoured to be entrusted with such an important task in establishing a standalone law for cyberbullying in Malaysia. 

Organised by MMU Research Team, the event was attended by researchers and academicians from around the world. The panellists were Prof. Dr. Zahrotur Rusyda Hinduan, Dean and Psychologist from the Faculty of Psychology, Padjadjaran University Indonesia; Assistant Professor Dr. Latha Subramaniam, Criminologist from Department of Criminology, University of Madras, Chennai, Tamil Nadu, India and Associate Professor Dr. Mohammad Rahim Kamaluddin, Criminologist from the Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities, Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM). 

On top of that, the symposium also invited three industry speakers namely Mr. Brent Carey, Chief Executive Officer of Netsafe; Mr. Martin Cocker, Online Safety Consultant of Online Safety Exchange (New Zealand) and Ms. Ella Serry from the Office of the ESafety Commissioner of Australia, where the speakers shared on the workings and experiences of the Alternative Dispute Resolution mechanism. MMU Research Team project leader, Dr. Bahma Sivasubraminiam also kicked off the first session titled ‘Understanding Cyberbullying from Legal Context: Issues and Challenges’. It is hoped that this symposium met its objectives and that the participants gained insightful knowledge and experience through this one-day symposium.
