A team of 8 members from the Multimedia University Special Interest Group (SIG) Mooting had participated in the 6th AIAC Pre-Moot for the Willem C. Vis International Commercial Arbitration, recently. The team consisted of 8 students from the Faculty of Law (FOL) out of which the oralists were Aaron Abishai Andrew, Jaskeerat Kaur, Leong Wei Shen, and Liveernieesh Ramakrishnan. The researchers for the team were Goh Jian Chang, Jessica a/p Sinnappan, Thevinthini a/p Ramakrishnan, and Hiral Sanghvi. There was 146 registered team from 45 countries and team MMU SIG Mooting was the only Malaysian team to stand alone among the Top 16 teams and was able to emerge into the Top 8 as one of the only Asian teams alongside Singapore Management University (SMU). On a separate set of rounds catered specifically for the Malaysian teams, the team emerged as the first runner-up.
The AIAC Pre-Moot is a regional effort to prepare teams for the Vis Moot either in Vienna or in Hong Kong. The AIAC Pre-Moot is one of the biggest pre-moot initiatives done for the participants internationally which is one of the 20 pre-moots spurred by the Vis Moot which is an international moot competition focusing on international commercial arbitration. The team went against some of the prominent vis moot teams which were the Federal University of Santa Catarina (Brazil), Seinan Gakuin University (Japan), Universidad Rafael Landivar (Guatemala), Kyiv National Taras Shevchenko University (Ukraine). For the advance rounds, the team was up against Westfälische Wilhelms-Universität Münster (Germany) and emerged victorious, however, defeated after a very close match against the University of Hamburg (Germany) who eventually emerged as the champion of the competition.
