Dr. Thomas Ooi, the Programme Industrial Advisor to BBA Marketing Management Programme of Faculty of Business (FOB), made a virtual visit to the faculty with the objective of assessing the academic curriculum, academic staff, educational resources, and the university’s Quality Management Systems (QMS) is at par with the industry standards. The visitation began with a welcoming speech by Dr. Lye Chun Teck, the Dean of FOB, then followed by a progress report presentation by Dr. Lim Ying San, the Head of Marketing Management Department.
During the visit, Dr. Thomas Ooi conducted separate interview sesisons with Marketing Management Unit lecturers and students. Dr. Thomas Ooi was also invited to give a talk to all Marketing Management students after the interviews. The talk titled, ‘Why Tech Giants Rush to Be Car Maker: Future Market Competitive Analysis for Autonomous Automobiles’ exposed students to the current issues of the automotive industry, and explained the reasons why tech giants like Apple and Huawei ventured into the automotive industry. Dr. Thomas Ooi had also shared his insights on how tech giants use User Ecosystems to create dominant core competencies in the future automotive industry. At the end of the talk, all participants were given chance to engage with Dr. Thomas and this helped the students to learn better about the future development in tech-related industries.
Dr. Thomas Ooi is currently the Solutions Enabling Manager to Intel Corporation and alumni to Multimedia University. With his working experience and familiarity with the business industry, the faculty believes that Dr. Thomas Ooi’s assessment can provide impactful insights to the BBA Marketing Management Programme to further improve the programme.
