A group of Mechanical Engineering students from the Faculty of Engineering and Technology (FET) participated in a virtual industrial talk, recently. The event was organised by the Industrial Linkage Committee. The talk was delivered by Mr. Mohsen Hamidipour, the R&D Manager of Gemilang Coachwork Sdn. Bhd., who presented an introduction of the bus building industry to the students. Located at Senai, Johor, Gemilang Coachwork Sdn. Bhd, is one of the leading bus body manufacturers and bus assemblers in Malaysia and Singapore since 1989.
The students were briefed on the history of public transportation and the development of commercial vehicles for mass transit. Mr. Hamidipour also emphasised on the importance of technical knowledge in Mechanical Engineering and analytical skills in Quality Management System (QMS) in the process of designing a bus body. At the end of the session, the students were invited to collaborate with Gemilang Coachwork Sdn. Bhd. in projects and internships to gain their first-hand experience in the bus body building industry and help to improve the safety aspects of the bus design.
