On 9 April 2025, the Faculty of Business (FOB) hosted an insightful online talk titled “Recruiting a Suitable Candidate – A Legal Perspective”, delivered by prominent Malaysian employment lawyer, Mr. Louis Liaw. The session was tailored for students of the Bachelor of Business Administration (Human Resource Management) programme, aiming to deepen their understanding of legal frameworks in recruitment. Mr. Liaw, the principal of Louis Liaw Chambers in Kuala Lumpur, has extensive experience in employment and industrial relations law, specialising in wrongful dismissal, workplace investigations, contract disputes, and compliance advisory.
During the session, Mr. Liaw explored key legal considerations involved in the hiring process, emphasising the importance of lawful recruitment practices and compliance with employment regulations. He illustrated his points through real-life case studies, providing students with practical insights into challenges faced by HR professionals in today’s dynamic workplace. His expert guidance shed light on how future HR practitioners can navigate legal risks while upholding ethical standards in recruitment.
