On 17 January 2025, 20 students of Diploma in Accounting from the Faculty of Business (FOB), along with two lecturers, visited the Tzu Chi Education and Recycling Centre in Ayer Keroh, Melaka, as part of a University Social Responsibility (USR) initiative. The visit aimed to foster environmental awareness and promote sustainable practices. Guided by dedicated volunteers, the students explored an Environmental Awareness Exhibition, learning about global waste issues and practical ways to embrace sustainable living through the 5R principles: Refuse, Reduce, Reuse, Repair, and Recycle.
The hands-on experience allowed students to participate in recycling activities, including sorting paper waste and managing mixed recyclable items like plastic bottles, aluminium cans, and electronic appliances. These tasks provided valuable insights into waste separation and the importance of recycling in reducing landfill contributions. The visit also inspired students to reflect on their consumption habits and adopt eco-friendly practices, such as reducing waste and practicing a zero-waste lifestyle.
This collaboration between FOB and Tzu Chi highlights MMU’s commitment to holistic education and social responsibility. By integrating environmental education with community engagement, the initiative equips students with knowledge and values to contribute positively to global sustainability efforts.
