MMU Lion Dance team delivered an outstanding performance at the 1st APU Cup Traditional Lion Dance Competition 2024, held on 22 December 2024 at Fairy Park Heritage City, Klang. The team emerged as champions in the University category and secured the first runner-up position in the Open category.
The national-level competition brought together exceptional talents from across Malaysia. The University category was open to students from local and private universities, while the Open category welcomed participants from various backgrounds, including associations, companies, and independent experts.
The Lion Dance team, composed of twelve members from the Chinese Language Society (CLS) at the Cyberjaya campus, outperformed four other university teams to secure the top spot in the University category. Their exceptional performance also earned them the first runner-up position in the highly competitive Open category, which featured 17 teams. The two students, Lee Wei Lin and Sua Jun Yi, both from the Faculty of Computing and Informatics (FCI), performed the lion dance, while their teammates from FCI, the Faculty of Creative Multimedia (FCM), and the Faculty of Applied Communication (FAC) played the instruments, making the entire performance impressive and captivating.
The team celebrated their victories by showcasing their trophies, a mock cheque of RM1,500, and the MMU flag. Their achievements highlighted the commitment, dedication, and talent of MMU students in extracurricular activities. Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ng Kok Why, Deputy Dean of the FCI and advisor to the CLS Cyberjaya, attended the event to lend his support and encouragement to the team. This achievement was made possible through the unwavering support of the Student Lifestyle and Experience (STyLE) division and the Facilities Management Department (FMD).
