MMU continues to shine as a beacon of sporting excellence, securing its seventh consecutive championship title at the MASISWA Southern Zone Sports Championship 2024. Held over three days, from 20 to 22 December 2024, at Tunku Abdul Rahman University of Management and Technology (TAR UMT), Johor Branch Campus, the event brought together athletes from twelve private Malaysian universities from southern zone.
MMU’s exceptional student-athletes delivered a stunning performance, claiming a total of 23 medals, including an impressive 12 golds, 9 silvers, and 2 bronzes. The gold medal triumphs came in chess, where MMU swept the men’s and women’s team and single categories. In table tennis, MMU showcased unparalleled excellence by clinching gold in the mixed doubles, men’s singles, women’s singles, men’s doubles, and women’s doubles categories. Adding to the gold tally were remarkable victories in basketball and badminton, with wins in the men’s and women’s doubles events.
Silver medal achievements further underscored MMU’s all-around strength, with outstanding performances in table tennis (men’s doubles, women’s doubles, men’s singles, and women’s singles), badminton (men’s and women’s singles), and chess (women’s single). The basketball and netball teams also delivered stellar performances, earning silver medals in their respective categories. Bronze medals were secured in the chess women’s and men’s single categories, reflecting the depth of talent and determination within MMU’s ranks.
This extraordinary achievement highlights MMU’s unwavering commitment to fostering holistic development, where students excel not only academically but also in sports and co-curricular activities.
