The Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET) MMU Melaka Student Chapter, in collaboration with the Software Engineering (SOF-EA) group of Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM), organised a workshop on machine learning at the Malaysia-Japan International Institute of Technology (MJIT) in November 2024. A total of 24 participants, primarily from the Faculty of Engineering and Technology (FET) and the Faculty of Information Science and Technology (FIST), attended the workshop.
This initiative was supervised by Prof. Ir. Dr. Sim Kok Swee, the IET Club Advisor, and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Fazly Salleh Abas, the accompanying lecturer, both of whom played pivotal roles in its inception. Additionally, the event’s success was made possible through the dedicated efforts of IET’s high committee members: Kaviratna Narayansamy, Darvind A/L Govindha Rajan, Pavinassh Jegathisan, Hi Chia Ling, Lai Ee Hern, Lee Jia Wei, Faiza Osama Abdalla Hashim, and Akram Salah Mohamed Eldemerdash.
The workshop featured a guest speaker, Assoc. Prof. Ir. Dr. Airil Yasreen Mohd Yassin from Heriot-Watt University Malaysia, who delivered an insightful session on the basics of machine learning and the process of building neural networks using MATLAB. Participants also received access to an online module authored by Assoc. Prof. Ir. Dr. Airil Yasreen, further enriching their learning experience.
As IET MMU Melaka’s first collaborative venture with another institution, this event marked a significant milestone in fostering a strong academic partnership with UTM. It also paved the way for future collaborative initiatives. The success of this workshop underscores the potential for growth and innovation through academic collaboration.
Well done!
