Sports Mania 2024, an annual event organised by the MMU Students’ Representative Council (SRC) 2023/2024 with the support of the Student Lifestyle & Experience (STyLE) unit, commenced with great excitement at the MMU Melaka campus. The opening ceremony was graced by Prof. Dato’ Dr. Mazliham Mohd Su’ud, President of MMU. A highlight of the ceremony was the symbolic lighting of the torch, representing the theme “Flame of Unity,” carried by Ms. Christy The Xing Ti, an accomplished swimmer who has won multiple gold medals at both national and international levels.
Running from 8 to 18 November 2024, this event featured an impressive lineup of 12 sports, including football, netball, e-sports, frisbee, badminton, volleyball, archery, basketball, chess, table tennis, futsal, and bowling. The event served as a vibrant platform for students to showcase their talents, hone their athletic skills, and foster a spirit of healthy competition.
What makes Sports Mania 2024 even more exciting this year is the introduction of six dynamic contingents competing for glory: Iota Inderasakti, Kappa Kasturi, Lambda Laksamana, Mu Mahamiru, Rho Rajawali, and Sigma Samudera. These contingents, formed based on the Hall system, allow students to not only participate in sports competitions but also engage in non-sport activities, such as the WIN program. This new system adds a unique layer of competitiveness and fosters a strong sense of camaraderie and belonging among the members of each contingent, enhancing the overall spirit of the event.
The event was also attended by Prof. Dr. Wong Eng Kiong, Melaka Campus Director and Vice President of Student Experience & Entrepreneurship Development (SEED), Mdm. Putri Nurul ‘Aaina binti Rusli, Deputy Director of STyLE together with the team. This celebration of sportsmanship and unity highlights MMU’s ongoing commitment to nurturing student talent and enhancing the overall campus experience.
