A two-day event, the 2024 ICDL Asia Digital Literacy Day, took place from 26 to 27 November 2024 at the Multipurpose Hall, Cyberjaya campus. Hosted by MMU’s commercial arm, CNERGY, the event provided a dynamic platform for academic leaders, industry experts, and training providers to exchange insights on key industry trends and best practices in digital skills and digital learning across Asia.

The second day of the event saw a warm welcome from Prof. Dato’ Dr. Mazliham Mohd Su’ud, President of MMU, who expressed his enthusiasm for the event’s role in fostering digital literacy. The occasion was further honoured by a special address from Her Excellency Orla Tunney, Ambassador of Ireland to Malaysia, and a keynote speech by Tuan Fabian Bigar, Secretary General of the Ministry of Digital Malaysia. In addition, Mr. Damien O’Sullivan, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the ICDL Foundation, also delivered a presentation, contributing to the event’s thought-provoking discussions on the future of digital education.

Themed “Enhancing Digital Skills for AI-Driven Transformation,” the event attracted a diverse audience of industry professionals, civil servants, academic leaders, and training providers from various countries. On the first day, the focus was on the digital transformation journey, with prominent speakers from Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC) sharing valuable insights. This was complemented by case studies and an Educators’ Showcase Session designed to highlight innovative practices in digital education.

CNERGY and Yayasan TM played a significant role in the session titled “Spotlight on Sustainable Partnerships,” offering valuable insights and perspectives on fostering impactful and enduring collaborations. Their presentations focused on innovative strategies for advancing digital upskilling and creating meaningful societal impact.

Mr. Wan Mohd Shahrulnizam Wan Mohamed, Lead Consultant at CNERGY, delivered a case study highlighting the challenges and successes in digital upskilling from the viewpoint of a project manager and training implementer. Complementing this, Pn. Ainol Shaharina Sahar, Director of Yayasan TM, provided a case study that explored digital upskilling from the perspective of a social impact foundation, showcasing the transformative role such initiatives play in empowering communities.

Adding depth to the discussion, testimonials on the effectiveness of ICDL programmes were shared by Ts. Dr. R Kanesaraj a/l Ramasamy, a CNERGY Trainer and Deputy Director at Multimedia University’s Touchpoint Management Office, and Mr. Muhammad Irfanuddin bin Martadza, a Yayasan TM project alumnus. Dr. Kanesaraj emphasized the academic and practical benefits of the ICDL programmes, while Mr. Irfanuddin shared his personal journey and the positive outcomes he experienced through the initiative.

These contributions collectively highlighted the critical role of sustainable partnerships in driving digital literacy and fostering long-term societal benefits, aligning perfectly with the event’s theme of enhancing digital skills for an AI-driven future. The event also celebrated excellence in digital learning, recognising the winners of several prestigious awards, including the ICDL Asia Digital Challenge 2024, ICDL Asia Digital Educators’ Award 2024, and ICDL Asia Partner Awards 2024. CNERGY was awarded with ICDL Asia Partner Awards 2024 during the event.

This gathering underscored the importance of advancing digital skills, especially in light of AI-driven transformation, and further cemented MMU’s role as a key player in shaping the future of digital literacy in Asia.
