The Alliance of Government-Linked Universities (GLU), consisting of Multimedia University (MMU), Universiti Tenaga Nasional (UNITEN), Universiti Kuala Lumpur (UniKL), and Universiti Teknologi Petronas (UTP), has formalised their collaboration at the Malaysian Qualifications Agency (MQA) International Conference 2024 with the signing of a Collaboration Agreement on 11 November 2024 in Kuching, Sarawak.
Signing the agreement were Prof. Dato’ Dr. Mazliham Mohd Su’ud, President of MMU and Chairman of GLU; Prof. Dato’ Ir. Ts. Mohamed Ibrahim Abdul Mutalib, Vice Chancellor of UTP; Prof. Ir. Dr. Khairul Salleh Mohamed Sahar, Vice-Chancellor of UNITEN; and Prof. Dr. Kushsairy Abdul Kadir, Deputy President (Academic and Technology) of UniKL.
This agreement marks a commitment to co-develop innovative micro-credential programmes aimed at meeting the growing demand for targeted, flexible learning pathways that align with industry needs. The MoA was witnessed by Datuk Prof. Dr. Azlinda Azman, Director General of Higher Education, and MQA CEO Prof. Datuk Dr. Mohammad Shatar Sabran.
The programme aims to address Malaysia’s workforce skills gap by offering shorter, focused learning paths that complement existing qualifications, including a potential joint Master’s degree. Micro-credentials are designed to meet the growing demand for specialized, adaptable skills driven by technological advancements. Sustainability is a key focus, with the programme targeting industries such as energy, urban planning, and environmental management. The Sustainability Officer Professional Certification will equip professionals with the knowledge to drive sustainable practices, positioning Malaysia as a leader in sustainable industry practices and preparing a future-ready workforce.
