On 14 November 2024, a group of students from the Faculty of Management (FOM), specialising in Accounting and Analytical Economics, had the invaluable opportunity to attend the 24th Perdana Discourse Series at the Perdana Leadership Foundation in Putrajaya. Accompanied by their lecturers, the students immersed themselves in discussions centered on the theme: “Balancing Economic Growth with Social Equity in Malaysia: Building an Equitable and Prosperous Future.”

This thought-provoking event explored the critical intersection of economic development and social justice, aiming to address how Malaysia can achieve sustainable growth while ensuring fair wealth distribution and equal opportunities for all its citizens. Moderated by Mr. Muhammed Ahmad Hamdan, a well-known Media Prima News Anchor and TV Host, the discourse included esteemed panellists. Professor Datuk Dr. Norma Mansor, Director of the Social Wellbeing Research Centre at Universiti Malaya (UM), Dr. Mohd Afzanizam Abdul Rashid, Chief Economist at Bank Muamalat Malaysia Berhad, and Ms. Syalin Koh, Research, Design, and Impact Manager at Teach For Malaysia, shared their insights on fostering economic growth while ensuring social equity.

Sponsored by DRB-HICOM, the series provided MMU students with a valuable platform to engage with leading industry experts. The discourse not only broadened their understanding of integrating economic policies with social welfare initiatives but also underscored the role of equitable practices in sustainable development. This enriching experience allowed the students to deepen their academic insights, gain real-world perspectives on critical issues, and build connections with professionals.
