The Multimedia University Special Interest Group (SIG) for Mooting together with the Faculty of Law, recently organised the Tun Zaki Moot Competition 2024 at the Asian International Arbitration Centre (AIAC), bringing together 15 teams from 9 universities across Malaysia from 26-27 October 2024. This year’s competition focused on Intellectual Property Law. The competition aims to enhance critical legal reasoning and oral argument skills of the participants, essential tools for their future legal careers.
The final round was judged by an esteemed panel of legal experts, including Yang Amat Berbahagia Tun Dato’ Seri Zaki Tun Azmi, Yang Arif Dato’ Sri Hasnah Binti Dato’ Mohammed Hashim, Yang Berbahagia Datuk Vernon Ong Lam Kiat, Yang Berbahagia Professor Emeritus Datuk Dr. Khaw Lake Tee, and Yang Berbahagia Datuk Professor Sundra Rajoo. Their guidance and expertise added immense value, offering participants a real-world perspective into the field of arbitration.
The participating universities included the International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM), Universiti Sultan Zainal Abidin (UniSZA), HELP University, Universiti Malaya (UM), Brickfields Asia College (BAC), Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM), Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM), the University of Reading Malaysia (UoRM), and Multimedia University (MMU). One of MMU’s team, Team 2409 from MMU, reached the semi-finals, and was placed 3rd place overall. The competition concluded with Team 2401 from International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM) emerging as the Champions.
FOL, along with the Student Lifestyle and Experience Department (STyLE) and the MMU SIG Mooting, played a crucial role in organizing this prestigious event, fostering an environment of academic and professional growth. Their dedication was essential to the success of this year’s competition, creating an inspiring and memorable experience for all involved.
The Tun Zaki Moot Competition 2024 provided an excellent platform for young legal minds to hone their advocacy skills and offered valuable networking opportunities with esteemed legal professionals, reinforcing MMU’s commitment to fostering academic excellence and professional development.
