The Faculty of Engineering and Technology (FET) Alumni Committee organised an engaging physical sharing session on 15 November 2024, featuring Mr. Jonathan Aaron Hendriks, an alumnus of Bachelor of Engineering (Hons.) Electronics majoring in Robotics & Automation, class of 2018. Currently an Electrical Engineer at ResMed Singapore, Mr. Jonathan delivered an inspiring talk to a group of 40 FET engineering students. The session, titled “Engineering Purpose: A Journey Through University and Beyond” began with Mr. Jonathan reflecting on his motivation to pursue higher education and his professional journey. He recounted his experiences working with various companies, elaborating on projects such as laser marking and designing electronics circuits for sleep monitoring devices.
A highlight of his sharing session was the emphasis on a positive approach to life, which resonated deeply with the audience. He shared personal challenges from his university days, including difficulties staying awake during lectures, tying this into a broader discussion about the importance of sleep. He raised awareness about sleep apnea, encouraging students to prioritise early diagnosis and treatment. Mr. Jonathan also showcased a diagnostic kit and portable sleep monitoring device, giving students hands-on exposure to cutting-edge medical technology.
In addition to the sharing session, Mr. Jonathan made time to reconnect with his former lecturers and juniors, fostering meaningful interactions that extended beyond the formal event. His visit not only motivated students but also strengthened the bond between alumni and the university, leaving a lasting impact on those who attended.
