A team from the Faculty of Creative Multimedia (FCM) secured third place at the XR Jam: MindScape 2024, a 48-hour competition held on 9-10 November 2024, at Xsolla in Kuala Lumpur. The team members were Lena Teh Poh Leng (UI & UX Designer), Haris bin Zaid (3D Character Designer), Akiff Rahman (3D Artist and Developer), and Teoh Sing Jian (Lead Developer), guided by Ts. Dendi Permadi and Mr. Yap Wen Jiun from FCM’s Virtual Reality (VR) program.

Organised by Taylor’s University VorteXR Club and supported by Xsolla, Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC), and Virtualtech Frontier (VTF), the event brought together 80 university students from 15 institutions across Malaysia. The competition focused on creating innovative XR and GenAI solutions aimed at enhancing mental well-being.

FCM’s project, ReFrame: Virtual Mental Rehab Centre, impressed the judges, earning the 3rd Place and a Special Prize for Character Excellence. The team walked away with RM635 and RM315, respectively, in cash prizes. In addition to the prizes, the team received an exciting opportunity from Xsolla to join the Xsolla Funding Club (XFC), a platform that connects game developers with over 250 investors and publishers.

ReFrame is an extended reality (XR) platform designed to support mental health recovery. Utilizing passthrough technology, the platform blends virtual elements with the user’s real environment, creating an immersive, AI-powered experience to enhance emotional well-being. The team’s innovative approach to mental health was met with great enthusiasm and recognition, highlighting the potential of XR technology in addressing real-world challenges.

Congratulations to the FCM team for this achievement!
