Two outstanding films from the Faculty of Cinematic Arts (FCA) have been selected for the upcoming BMW Shorties 2024, showcasing the remarkable talent within our community. The BMW Shorties team announced its list of finalists and nominees on 4 November 2024, with the final round scheduled for December 2024.
Sahswin A/L Chandrasegeran’s short film Mudivurai has been honored with a nomination for the ‘Best Student Shorties’ award. Created as a first-year project by Claire De Lune Productions, Mudivurai delves into the life of Nagaiyah, a 55-year-old man on the cusp of retirement. When he turns to his son for help with his farewell speech, the emotional distance between them surfaces, weaving a powerful narrative about family and connection.
In addition to Mudivurai, Mourning Visit by Mr. Chan Teik Quan, an FCA lecturer, has also been selected as one of the top 10 finalists for the BMW Shorties 2024: PULSE. This powerful film has received nominations for ‘Best Story,’ ‘Best Cinematography,’ and ‘Best Sound Design,’ for the competition. The BMW Shorties, launched by BMW Group Malaysia in 2006, is a renowned platform for emerging filmmakers, dedicated to fostering creativity and innovation.
