The Faculty of Management (FOM) hosted a comprehensive workshop on Generative Artificial Intelligence (AI) for 38 counselling teachers from the Majlis Guru Kaunseling Kebangsaan (MGKK) in Daerah Muallim, Perak. The event aimed to equip educators with skills and insights into generative AI technologies, empowering them to integrate these tools into their practice to enhance student engagement, provide personalised support, and make informed decisions.

Under the leadership of Dr. Abby Ashraff Saprudin, and supported by facilitators Ms. Nor Hazleza Mohamad, Ms. Norzarina Md Yatim, Ms. Noor Shahaliza Othman, and Mr. Zulkefly Yusup, the workshop was designed to inspire educators to explore the potential of AI within the realm of counseling. Dr. Abby began the session by introducing the fundamentals of generative AI, discussing its capabilities, real-world applications, and ethical considerations, thereby laying a solid foundation for the attendees. Building on this, the facilitators led hands-on activities, including live AI demonstrations and interactive group discussions. Participants were actively engaged, experimenting with AI-based tools and simulations that demonstrated how AI can be leveraged to support counseling needs.

The workshop’s success extended beyond individual satisfaction. Participants emphasised the importance of staying up-to-date with AI technology to meet the evolving needs of students, especially within a digitally savvy generation. Several counseling teachers expressed excitement about integrating AI to enhance personalized support, allowing for more tailored solutions to students’ unique needs and concerns. Many also appreciated the opportunity to engage with peers, exchanging insights on how AI can complement traditional counseling methods to improve student outcomes and engagement.

The event received very positive feedback, with participants requesting follow-up workshops to explore AI tools in more detail. The team was praised for their coordination, engaging presentations, and supportive environment. Due to the strong interest, the faculty plans to organize more workshops to help educators build digital skills across various fields. This workshop marks an important step in the Faculty of Management’s efforts to prepare educators for an AI-driven future, ensuring schools and counseling services stay at the forefront of innovation.
