On 1st September 2024, six international students from the English Proficiency Programme (EPP) at MMU Melaka Campus, along with members of the Learning Institute for Empowerment (LIfE) Staff Club, set off on an exciting educational trip to Johor. Their first stop was Sultan Ibrahim Stadium, home of the Johor Darul Ta’zim Football Club (JDT), where they admired the impressive facilities and learned about Johor’s football culture.
The group then visited Kompleks Warisan Sultan Abu Bakar to explore Johor’s rich Malay heritage. At Rumah Limas, a traditional Johor house, the students tried on traditional Malay costumes and reviewed samples of local foods. They also observed the intricate art of songket weaving and explored a gallery showcasing Johor’s cultural expressions through drawings and sculptures. The group concluded their visit by participating in a lively Zapin dance session, embracing Johor’s traditional dance and enjoying a cultural engagement.
Before returning to Melaka, the students enjoyed some time at Johor Premium Outlets (JPO) for window shopping. The trip was a perfect mix of cultural immersion and fun, leaving the students with lasting memories and a deeper appreciation for Johor’s heritage.
