Mr. Neeshan Munisamy, an alumnus from the Faculty of Engineering and Technology (FET), returned to his alma mater for the Alumni Sharing Session on 5 September 2024. Graduating in 2013, Mr. Neeshan is currently employed at Infineon Technologies as a Technical and Operations Safety Engineer. With 10 years of experience in workplace Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) governance, Mr. Neeshan has worked with companies that prioritize OSH.

The session aimed to educate soon-to-graduate students on the importance of OSH in modern working environments. After recounting his early years, Mr. Neeshan detailed his job portfolio, including his work in manufacturing companies and his transition into specialising in OSH. He also discussed how skills in OSH implementation and management can enhance employability.

In addition to sharing his personal experiences and motivations, Mr. Neeshan provided insights into the certifications he has earned for OSH-related work and the importance of staying updated with OSH knowledge. He also covered OSH principles and the efforts invested by industries, governments, and NGOs to promote and ensure workplace safety.

A notable highlight of his presentation was his emphasis that sources of danger can never be eliminated. Instead, consistent risk management and persistent vigilance are necessary to mitigate risks. He cited former MMU OSH officer Mr. Kesavan Arumugam as his inspiration in this regard. Mr. Neeshan also answered students’ questions about the prospects of OSH-related jobs and the legal liabilities associated with workplace accidents. The session concluded with Prof. Lim Way Soong presenting a souvenir to Mr. Neeshan and acknowledging those who attended the talk.
