The Faculty of Law (FOL) welcomed 15 students and Professor Dr.  Toru Kurata from Rikkyo University, Tokyo, for their second international study visit from 20 August to 31 August 2024. The visit commenced with an opening ceremony officiated by Prof. Dr. Abdul Mohaimin bin Noordin Ayus, Dean of FOL, alongside Assistant Professor Mr. Tay Eng Siang, director of the programme committee. The event was attended by Japanese students, committee members, faculty staff, and student ambassadors from the Multimedia University Law Society (MULS), fostering an atmosphere of collaboration and cultural exchange.

Throughout the study visit, the Japanese students were introduced to various aspects of Malaysia’s legal and cultural landscape. They attended sessions on Malaysian Legal History, the Malaysian Legal System, Common Law, and Constitutional Law, along with English language training and a mock trial performance. Their cultural experience was equally enriching, with the students participating in traditional Malaysian songs, dances, games, and sampling local cuisine. They also explored historic sites in Malacca, including A Famosa, St. Paul’s Hill, and the Baba & Nyonya Heritage Museum, and engaged in station games with MULS ambassadors at MMU.

The program concluded with a lively closing ceremony where the Japanese students performed Malaysian cultural songs and dances in traditional attire and expressed their gratitude with a special Japanese performance. Before their return to Japan, the group enjoyed a three-day trip to Putrajaya and Kuala Lumpur, visiting iconic landmarks like the Kuala Lumpur City Centre, Batu Caves, and Thean Hou Temple. The visit was a great success, providing the students with valuable insights into Malaysia’s legal system and multiracial culture, while strengthening ties between the two universities.
