The Centre for Alumni and the Faculty of Information Science and Technology (FIST) hosted a virtual sharing session featuring Dr. Andrews Samraj, FIST alumnus on 9 August 2024. This session, part of the “Permata Dunia Returns” talk series, attracted over 50 participants and focused on the transformative potential of generative Artificial Intelligence (AI).

Dr. Andrews highlighted the ability of generative AI to seamlessly integrate text, audio, and executable codes, emphasising its vast applications in content writing, graphic design, and expert systems. He also explored its significant impact on video creation, robotics, and the future evolution of search engines.

One of the key topics discussed was the role of expert systems as foundational elements of artificial general intelligence (AGI). Dr. Andrews stressed the importance of integrating various algorithms and techniques to develop effective AGI systems. He outlined the essential characteristics that AGI should embody, including cognitive abilities, situational awareness, and emotional responsiveness. It is hoped that this talk helped the students to obtain comprehensive understanding on generative AI.
