The Faculty of Creative Multimedia (FCM) co-hosted the grand finale of the 2024 Animated Short Film Competition, an event organised by the Communications and Multimedia Content Forum of Malaysia (CMCF), Persatuan Festival Seni Kreatif dan TVET Malaysia (ANIFEST) and Persatuan Pendidik Animasi Malaysia (PPAM).
The ceremony celebrated creative talent by showcasing the finest animated works from students across higher education institutions. The event was officially launched by Mr. Rafiq Razali, Chairman of CMCF, who emphasised the importance of nurturing the creative industry in Malaysia. Prof. Dato’ Dr. Mazliham Mohd Su’ud, President of MMU also attended the event.
One of the event’s highlights was the ‘Sesi Bicara Tokoh Animasi,’ a session led by Mr. Hassan Muthalib, known as the ‘Bapa Animasi.’ The program also featured an engaging forum titled ‘From Scratch to Screen: Inspire through Animation,’ which included insightful contributions from En. Anuar Hassan, a lecturer from FCM, Mdm. Mediha Mahmood, CEO of CMCF, and Mr. Usamah Zaid Yasin, CEO of WAU Animation Sdn. Bhd. and an MMU alumnus.
Following these enriching discussions, the event transitioned to the much-anticipated prize-giving ceremony, where the winners of the 2024 Animated Short Film Competition were honored. The winner of the competition, who took home a cash prize of RM6,000, was a group of students from the National Academy of Arts, Culture and Heritage (ASWARA) with their work titled T.M.I. The audience was then treated to screenings of the six best animated works from the competition, showcasing the incredible talent and creativity of the participants.
The event concluded with a heartfelt appreciation speech by Mr. Amir Hamzah Hashim, Executive Director of ANIFEST, who acknowledged the hard work and dedication of all those involved. Also present at the event were Ms. Nadia Mahmud, Dean of FCM, Dr. Syarifah Nurleyana Wafa Sy.Naguib Wafa, Deputy Dean of FCM, faculty members and students.
