On 8 June 2024, the LCDW6132 St. John Ambulance of Malaysia Character Development Course students from Multimedia University (MMU) orchestrated a remarkable sustainability event titled “SDG Nexus: Bridging University & Community.” Guided by Mr. Isaiah James and Ms. Asmida Ismail, lecturers from the Learning Institute for Empowerment (LIFE), the event took place at the Central Learning Complex of MMULand Melaka.

SDG Nexus aimed to raise awareness of sustainable development and foster collaboration among MMU, the local community, and external stakeholders in advancing Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Jointly organised by MMU, Tzu Chi Melaka, and St. John Ambulance Malaysia, the event featured engaging activities and informative exhibitions.

Notable organisations such as Perbadanan Teknologi Hijau Melaka, Proveg International, Malaysian Nature Society, Centre for Environment, Technology, and Development Malaysia, and Global Environment Centre hosted booths that provided valuable insights into various sustainability practices and initiatives. These included recycling, plant-based diets, environmental quality improvement through technology, sustainable development, water resource and forest management, natural habitat conservation, and organic farming.

Attendees enjoyed pocket talks focusing on the United Nations’ SDGs, interactive SDG quests, and a vibrant mini food stall offering sustainable food options. The event’s lively atmosphere was complemented by an energetic band performance, creating a memorable experience for all participants. SDG Nexus successfully bridged the university and community, promoting a collective commitment to a sustainable future grounded in the principle of “leave no one behind.”
