The Faculty of Business (FOB) hosted an engaging industrial talk titled “Doing Business in Malaysia: Opportunities and Challenges” on 29 May 2024. This event attracted students from the Diploma in Business Administration and Diploma in Digital Business programmes, particularly those enrolled in the BBY4114 Fundamentals of Business and Ethics course.
The highlight of the event was a thought-provoking presentation by Mr. Wilking Lim Wei King, the industrial advisor for the Diploma in Business Administration program and the Chief Strategist at McDonald Carter PLT, who is also the Permata Dunia of FOB. His insights provided valuable perspectives on the complexities and prospects of conducting business in Malaysia, enriching the students’ academic experience.
Mr. Lim shared his extensive knowledge and experience, offering students a realistic view of Malaysia’s business environment. He covered crucial topics such as business registration, opportunities in Malaysia, and the challenges faced by entrepreneurs. He highlighted Malaysia’s strategic location, diverse economy, and supportive government policies as key opportunities, while also addressing challenges like market competition and the need for continuous innovation.
The primary goal of the talk was to give students a realistic understanding of the business landscape in Malaysia, inspiring them to consider entrepreneurial ventures. The event concluded with Ms. Nurainiah Binti Abu Hassan, Assistant Programme Coordinator for the Diploma in Business Administration, presenting a souvenir to Mr. Lim in gratitude for his contribution.
This talk was part of MMU’s efforts to bridge the gap between academic learning and the real business world, preparing students for successful careers and entrepreneurial endeavors. The event was co-organised by Dr. Subhacini Subramaniam, subject coordinator, along with Ms. Siow Yung Ern and her students, Toh Yu Xuan, Diong Phui Sing, and Wong Jia Yean, who are enrolled in the “Introduction to Event Management” course.
