On 15 June 2024, approximately 250 students from the Faculty of Information Science & Technology (FIST) and the Faculty of Computing and Informatics (FCI) participated in a hybrid cybersecurity challenge known as Capture the Flag (CTF). Hosted at the EDC Innolab, Cyberjaya campus and powered by Nexagate, a leading cybersecurity consulting and services provider founded by MMU alumni, the event received support from the Career Connect team.
The CTF event showcased the skills and dedication of the participants, including 25 FIST students who attended the physical session led by their lecturer, Dr. Ooi Shih Yin. Participants engaged in diverse tasks designed to assess their ability to identify and mitigate cybersecurity threats. The event aimed to provide practical experience and enhance problem-solving skills essential for future careers in cybersecurity. As a result, IT Chicken Rice Shoppers (ITCRS) emerged victorious in first place, followed by N2WBEES in second and SecurEthics (FIST) in third. The CTF challenge also honored the top three individual winners, Mohammad Amin Ayob, Hani Hamizah Hamzan, and Teo Ming Hung, for achieving the highest scores.
The event’s success underscored the collaborative efforts of Nexagate and Career Connect, ensuring a smooth and rewarding experience for all participants. By bridging academia and industry, the event emphasised the practical application of knowledge in education and the value of industry partnerships in nurturing future talent. As the day concluded, participants departed not only with a sense of accomplishment but also with valuable insights and experiences that will undoubtedly enrich their academic and professional journeys.
