IEEE MMU and Chumbaka joined hands to host a two-day training programme for the Young Innovators Challenge (YIC) Train the Trainers. This event was attended by ten dedicated teachers from various schools, including Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan (SMK) Cheras, SMK Seri Permaisuri, SMK Cochrane, SMK Taman Melati, SMK Subang Utama, SMK Agama Kuala Selangor, SMK Puteri Ampang, and Maktab Tentera Diraja from 10 May until 11 May 2024.
The YIC is an annual initiative aimed at catalysing the maker movement in secondary schools. Through this programme, students are supported by their teachers, mentors, and the programme organisers to tackle real-life problems using open-source embedded systems and software. Additionally, it offers students the chance to work on projects they are passionate about.
In preparation for the upcoming YIC competition in November 2024, IEEE MMU and Chumbaka took the initiative to train schoolteachers. The training focused on basic electronics circuits, including how to use Arduino microcontrollers, and emphasised the integration of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) elements. Chumbaka is an education compay focused on promoting STEM in Asia. This initiative ensures that teachers are well-equipped to guide their students in developing innovative projects, thus fostering a culture of creativity and problem-solving among young minds.
