The Faculty of Engineering and Technology (FT) hosted a student exchange programme from the Philippines. They welcomed 19 exchange students and one staff member from the College of Engineering, Architecture, and Technology, De La Salle University – Dasmariñas (DLSU-D) from March 22 to April 6, 2024. Over the years, students from MMU and DLSU-D have alternated visits to each other’s countries and universities.
The program provided an opportunity for the delegates to expand their networks and learn about ongoing research at the international level. Additionally, the delegates had the chance to immerse themselves in cultural experiences through off-campus activities. The main highlight of the program was a workshop focused on designing and developing a 4-degree-of-freedom (DOF) robotic arm. Participants were instructed on designing a suitable robot gripper and fabricating it via 3D printing. They also learned how to control the electronic kit robotic arm using Arduino programming. A friendly competition was held on the last day of the workshop, utilising the robotic arms built by the participants themselves.
In addition to the technical activities, the delegates were taken on a Melaka City Tour, where they learned more about Melaka as a historical city in Malaysia. They visited several significant historical sites such as A-Famosa, St. Paul Hill, Red Square, and others. In addition to exploring Melaka City, the delegates also spent two days in Kuala Lumpur, visiting iconic landmarks such as the Petronas Twin Towers, Batu Caves, Bukit Bintang shopping malls, and more. It is hoped that the program will inspire further collaboration and networking in research and education between the two universities in the future.
