Multimedia University (MMU), the Malaysian Communications & Multimedia Commission (MCMC) and the GSM Association (GSMA) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to renew their collaboration and partnership at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, Spain on 27 February 2024. 

The agreement was signed by Prof. Dato’ Dr. Mazliham Mohd Su’ud, the President and Chief Executive Officer of MMU, Tan Sri Mohamad Salim Fateh Din, the Chairman of MCMC and Mr. John Giusti, the Chief Regulatory Officer of the GSMA. The signing was witnessed by the Senior Advisor International Affairs of MCMC, Tan Sri Dato’ Seri Mohd Annuar bin Zaini. Among other attendees were Dato’ Zainal Abidin Putih, the Chairman of Telekom Malaysia (TM), Mr. Niall Senior Director of Government and Regulatory Affairs of GSMA and Dr. Bahma Subramaniam. 

This ceremony also signifies the continuation of the implementation and execution of the telecoms regulatory training programme or known as the Converged Telecommunications Policy and Regulations (CTPR) Masterclass.  All three parties have joined hands since 2015, and this new agreement will see this training expanded across the ASEAN region. 

“As a Research-led, Industry-driven University (RIU), MMU is honoured to form a strategic partnership with key stakeholders in the communication and technology industry. We will ensure that the course content is continuously reviewed and revised in line with developments in the converged telecommunications policy and regulations realm,” said Prof. Dato’ Dr. Mazliham Mohd Su’ud.

The programme covers 14 modules on emerging perspectives in policy and regulations, spectrum management, internet governance, network security and forensics, intellectual property rights, business strategy for the telecommunications industry, AI, big data analytics, new directions in digital services, network and digital economy, and creative content industry, which will be facilitated by local as well as international industry experts and subject matter experts from MMU. 

For the next three years, the Masterclass will crisscross the ASEAN Member States, fostering cross-border learning and extensive collaboration. The journey is scheduled to commence in Jakarta, Indonesia this year. This programme assists to bridge the knowledge gap related to the latest trends, developments, and opportunities in the telecoms sector.
